'CO₂ Utilisation' facilities included in the ECCSEL Research Infrastructure

In line with the ECCSEL ERIC vision “Enabling low to zero CO₂ emissions from industry and power generation”, in ECCSEL included CO₂ Utilisation areas:

• Should have a significant positive impact on climate change
• Has obvious smart system integration potential with CCS

The rationale for CO₂ utilisation research is to advance science and develop innovative technologies that
provide sustainable energy and materials. To achieve this ambitious goal, is logical to extend ECCSEL ERIC with this longer term view on sustainable carbon management next to the need for direct GHG reduction via CO₂ storage.

Among various approaches, three main pathways offers strategic alignment with ECCSEL:

1. Thermochemical Conversion and Hydrogenation of CO₂
2. Electrochemical and Photochemical Conversion of CO₂
3. CO₂ Conversion to Solid Carbonates
